Garbology Assignment- One Student’s Trash is Another’s Treasure

Starting out term two with a bang, Ms. Carpenter’s Creative Writing 10 students class gathered some items together to inspire creativity. For this lesson on including realistic details in writing, students brought ten random items from home.  The unsuspecting students then discovered that each item had to appear in their next writing piece. There was a buzz in the room as students examined each other’s “treasures” and discussed how they might add these items in as naturally as possible. Items ranged from toys and figurines to keychains and perfume. One student even brought in an electronic pet dog. Whatever the result, these grade 10 students are certainly enjoying the process of sharing and learning together!
