What is Music in Our Schools?

Music in our Schools (MIOS) is a series of concerts held at the Gateway Theatre highlighting school music

programs. Concerts provide an opportunity for our young musicians to share their talents while performing on

stage at a professional venue.

The Richmond School District has vibrant and thriving music opportunities including choir, guitar, drumming,

musical theatre, concert band and jazz band programs. We know that in addition to learning the vast knowledge

and skills it takes to be a musician, music education helps our learners become persistent, confident and

expressive individuals. Participating in an ensemble allows for lasting friendships and a sense of belonging that

is essential to the overall wellness impacting all aspects of our learners’ lives.

We encourage all families to come out and support our musicians! What is a concert without an audience? There

is nothing like a roaring applause to encourage and acknowledge all the efforts of each and every learner who

participates! By attending events like these you are advocating for robust music programs that nurture our

learners' hearts, minds and souls! Thank you for coming to this event and for your ongoing, unwavering support.

Tickets cost $10.00 each and are available to order online through the Gateway Theatre. Instructions included

on next page. This is a non-profit event and all proceeds go to covering costs of the event and back to schools

directly to support music programs.
