Reminder there is school is closed on Monday for Truth and Reconciliation Day.


National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a statutory holiday in honour for the survivors, their families and their communities and ensure that the public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools." Due to this, September 30th is a day for us students to honour and recognize Indigenous peoples' enduring resilience and to commit to a future of reconciliation and unity, we will learn and reflect on the importance and history of this occasion by taking the day off, so please enjoy your day off and let it be a day of contemplation and engagement in the spirit of reconciliation.

 

Ravens! Thank you for supporting this year's Terry Fox Run. We will be tallying up the final donations and will announce the amount soon! Stay tuned to see if we reached our goals! 

 

Language Challenge Exam applications are now open.  Students will apply for the Challenge Exams on line but first, you need to talk to your counsellor to check that you are eligible.  You must be able to show that you can read, write and speak one of the challenge exam languages at a Gr 9/10 level.  Also, you need to check that you have not already received transfer credit for the language.  Please talk to your counsellor to check eligibility and get information about the application process.  The deadline for admissions is November 3rd. Students can write an exam for: 

• French 11&12                • Japanese 11&12 

• Korean 11&12                • Mandarin 11&12 (traditional & simplified characters)            

• Punjabi 11&12                 • Spanish 11&12

and, Farsi 11 & 12 is new this year

 

Are you interested in competing in science lab activities and challenges against other BC schools? Come join the KPU Science Challenge! Find Mr. Luk in Room 263 during Thursday's PLT for more information.

 

Are you ready to vote for the people who will be representing your grade in student council? grade rep elections are coming up so make sure to come and vote for your grade rep. grade 12s and 10s elections will happen on Wednesday oct 4th during lunch, 11s and 9s will be Thursday lunch and grade 8s will be on Friday in the gyms. see you all there!

Thursday Sept 28

Every child that went to residential school, well, they all matter. Even the ones that didn’t come home, they matter. And it wasn’t until after we were using that slogan that I realized that it fits the past, the present and the future. It fits reconciliation — it’s one of those divine things that fits in this day of reconciliation.

 

Reminder that there is a Green Team Meeting today at lunch in Mr Hockleys room! (room 246) new memebers are welcome to join!

Attention Grade 9 & 10 students: Immunization consent forms are due at the END OF THE DAY in the office. Advisory, teachers please remind your students to return them to the office tomorrow morning if they have not done so already. Thank you!

Please donate to our fundraiser, every $2 counts for a raffle ticket which can go towards pieing teachers in the face, or a mystery prize! And remember.. if we reach $1200, Mr. Lou will dye his hair! And at $1500, Mr. Blair will SHAVE HIS HEAD!! So let’s meet these goals! Also come out to play a Terry Fox Kahoot at lunch in the lounge!

 

There will be a basketball open gym for all boys in grades 9 & 10 on Friday at 4:45 PM. 

 

There will be a second library volunteer training session on Thursday during PLT for those who missed last week's session. See Ms. Mei if you have any questions.

This is an important announcement for Gr 12 and 11 students.   At 6:30 tonight, the school is hosting an Information Session for Parents of Gr 12 and 11 students, regarding Planning for Post-Secondary.   The session will take place in the Loungs.  Students are very welcome to attend.  Topics covered include: graduation requirements, post-secondary options, planning for post-secondary study and admissions.  

 

Please join Ms Walker in room 151 during Wednesday’s PLT to continue creating buttons to share on Friday – in honour of National Truth and Reconciliation Day. Please come and design your own, or use the ones provided.
