SD38 KPU Program Apps are Out! LinK38 and STRIVE

Scotiabank STRIVE Program 
Faculty of Arts Course With SD38 and KPU Richmond for 2023-2024 - runs January - April 2024

A Partnership with SD38 Career Programs and Kwantlen Polytechnic University (Richmond) Funded by Scotiabank

  • Only available to students entering Grade 11 or 12 in Fall 2023

  • STRIVE is unfortunately not available to International students

  • No high school pre-requisites required. Lots of support in a safe setting.

  • Students on an Evergreen or Dogwood education plan may apply

  • No cost – Tuition is funded by Scotiabank

  • Class is comprised of all SD38 students

  • Course runs January – April 2024 (face-to-face) @ Richmond KPU Campus

  • Class runs 4-7pm (approximately) – one evening per week

Overview of STRIVE Course:

  • -  Students take a pre-selected FACULTY OF ARTS Course at KPU (Richmond) (course to be determined

    by SD38 Career Programs, with student input)

  • -  The SD38 STRIVE students will all be in the same course, which is university transferable and will be

    applicable for credit to several certificates, diplomas or degrees.

    Features of STRIVE:

  • -  Takes place at KPU Richmond Campus – Format: face-to-face one day per week from 4-7pm

  • -  Runs January – April 2024 in student’s Grade 11 or 12 year

  • -  Free tuition – fully funded by KPU through a grant from Scotiabank

  • -  No pre-requisites required to take the course

  • -  Multiple KPU supports are built into the program (literacy support, student ambassador/tutor who sits in class, regular monitoring of progress)

  • -  An opportunity for current SD38 Grades 10 or 11 students to apply to access a university course and who might otherwise encounter a barrier(s) in doing so (take in Gr 11 or 12)

  • -  The class is dedicated exclusively to SD38, comprising up to 35 students

  • -  Note: There is no interview as part of the application process (apply = accepted!)

    Who Should Apply:

  • Grades 10 or 11 applicants only (unfortunately not open to International students)

  • The target profile is for students who

    o may or may not be on track to graduate (i.e. who may not see themselves as qualified to take a university course) (participants can be on Evergreen track) and/or for students who

    o identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour)

    When/How to Apply:

  • -  Application due date is May 8th, 2023

  • -  Complete the following (will be on Career Programs website and sent to schools when ready):

    o “SD38 Application – KPU STRIVE Program” which includes the...

    o KPU “Application for Admission – High School Dual Credit Programs” and KPU waiver

  • -  Submit both completed applications (with KPU waiver) to:

    o SD38 Career Programs Office by emailing careerprograms@sd38.bc.ca or deliver to Career Programs @ Learning Services (c/o Cambie Secondary)

    Credits (upon successful completion of course):

  • -  Students successful in this course will earn four credits on their high school transcript (course is PJ - - - 12A)

  • -  Course credit with KPU (students are registered KPU students)

Link38 runs September - December 2023

Link38 is a Partnership between Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) and SD38 Career Programs, where students CURRNETLY in grade 11 may apply to take one KPU course in the 1st semester of their grade 12 year.  This is a dual-credit opportunity where students will earn post-secondary credits and four high school credits toward their high school graduation, AND the post-secondary course tuition is FREE! .  Available course options to select from vary each year and ar listed in the application.

- Forensic Anthropology

- Introduction to Criminology

- Writing for University

- Introduction to Indigenous Studies

- Human Resources Management

- Intro to Marketing
