Halloween Notice and Guidelines
As we get closer to Halloween, we are excited to see the students participate in our spirit week which includes dressing up on October 31.
We ask for our MacNeill families assistance in having conversations around these upcoming events and future events that MacNeill students will be participating in. Whether these events are happening during school hours or extracurricular we expect that people are reminded about the ethos of our school around “POWER” (https://macneill.sd38.bc.ca/school-information/power). Our hope is that this will make them think about their role in making our community a stronger and safer place for all. Please be POWERFUL & follow the costume guidelines below.
Halloween Costume Guidelines
We are looking forward to seeing everyone in their costumes on October 31st. Wearing costumes is completely optional, but should your teenager choose to wear one, we do have guidelines to remind you of so that we can all have a fun and safe day:
- Students come to school in their costumes, rather than getting changed at lunch, break or other times.
- Students will still be expected to go to all classes and participate fully in classes.
- Leave masks and weapons that may go with your costumes at home. Masks can be scary, and difficult to see out of and weapons are never allowed to be brought to school, even plastic ones.
- As always, we want Halloween to be fun for ALL. When choosing costumes, a few things to keep in mind that the following are NOT Costumes:
RACE (black face/brown face)
CULTURE (includes black face/brown face, Indigenous regalia/dreadlocks)
MASKS (No covering of one’s face)
RELIGIOUS FAITH (religious figures/gods/saints/gurus/hijab)
GENDER (gender switching for humour or to mock)
TRAUMA (hangman’s noose/weapons)
