Digital Device Reminder Conversation
Dear Students, Parents, and Caregivers,
We would like to remind everyone of the expectations regarding personal digital devices at school to ensure a safe, focused, and productive learning environment for all students. The year has started off well, but we are noticing a slight increase of use without permission and are asking for your support to continue the conversation with your teenager about the key expectations below.
Key Expectations:
- During instructional time, students are not permitted to use personal digital devices (e.g., cell phones, tablets, smartwatches, headphones etc.) unless explicitly allowed by the supervising teacher for educational purposes.
- When not in use, personal devices should be turned off and securely stored in students' backpacks, lockers, or other secure locations, not in their pockets.
- Access to social media may be restricted on the school network during instructional time.
- Privacy considerations: Devices should not be used in areas where privacy is expected or required (e.g., washrooms, changing rooms).
- Parents: To help minimize distractions, we kindly ask parents/caregivers to refrain from contacting students on their personal devices during school hours. In case of an emergency, please contact the school office, and we will facilitate communication as needed.
These guidelines support the development of digital literacy, ethical digital citizenship, and a safe learning environment. We appreciate your cooperation in reinforcing these expectations at home, and for supporting the school in maintaining a focused and respectful space for all students.
We have attached some documents for you to review as well.
