Halloween Notice and Guidelines

Hello MacNeill Students and Families,

As we get closer to Halloween, we are excited to see the students participate in our spirit week which includes dressing up on October 31. However, we ask for conversations to take place to all people to be safe and respected. Please guide your teenager’s decision making to ensure their Halloween costume is appropriate. Please be POWERFUL & follow the costume guidelines respectfully.

Halloween Costume Guidelines

· Students are encouraged to dress up and come to school in their costumes, rather than getting changed at lunch.

· Students will still be expected to go to all classes and participate fully in classes.

· Leave masks and weapons that may go with your costumes at home. Masks can be scary, and difficult to see out of and weapons are never allowed to be brought to school, even plastic ones.

· As always, we want Halloween to be fun for ALL. When choosing costumes, a few things to keep in mind that the following are NOT Costumes:

RACE (black face/brown face)

CULTURE (includes black face/brown face, Indigenous regalia/dreadlocks)

MASKS (No covering of one’s face)

RELIGIOUS FAITH (religious figures/gods/saints/gurus/hijab)

GENDER (gender switching for humour or to mock)

TRAUMA (hangman’s noose/weapons)

For safety purposes, we need to be able to students face. Fake or real weapons cannot be part of their costume. Thanks for cooperation.

Thank you
