Attendance Information for 2023-2024 School Year

Student success and attendance are directly connected. We know that if students are at school more regularly, on time and prepared that they have already increased their opportunity to more successful in classes and school as a whole. It is important for us as a school that each student is on time and ready to learn and we hope it is the same for you and your child. In order to start the day off on the best foot it is important for the students to be early. Reviewing the daily bell schedule or posting this in your household will help everyone. Regular attendance is a key to success in school.

Parents/Guardians are asked to phone the school’s Early Warning line directly at 604-668-6278 or you can email macneill@sd38.bc.ca before 9:00 AM if your child is going to be absent, late or signing out.

Each day, the school will send a phone or email notification at 11:50 am and again, at 6 pm to a parent/guardian to confirm a student’s absence from school unless communication is made by the parent/guardian prior to 9:00 AM.

Please note, students are not permitted to phone in for themselves. Attendance confirmations will only be accepted by the student's parents/guardians ONLY.

When you call or email, please provide your name, whether you are the parent or guardian, and provide the following information:

• Student's first and last name, grade and student number

• Brief details about the absence or tardiness (i.e. date, reason and duration of late/absence).

Please note, if your teen needs to leave school early for an appointment, they must sign out at the office before they leave and only with parent authorization prior through email, the early warning line or signed note from a parent or we will phone to confirm before they can leave school. If students arrive late to school or return after an appointment, they must sign in at the office before going to class.

For ANY attendance discrepancies regarding absences or lates please have your student or yourself speak with the teacher directly to get that adjusted. Contact information for teachers can be found on our school website under Staff List & Emails on our website.
