Since March 2020, secondary schools in Richmond have adapted their organizational structures to meet Provincial Health Office mandated requirements due to the ongoing pandemic. During this time, secondary schools have been organized by online learning, cohort groupings within the quarter system, and the semester system. Even though we have moved past a time where the shift of a system was dictated by the health and safety choices of students and staff. We are revisiting the idea of how our structure at MacNeill Secondary will look like for the 2023-2024 school year. This was asked for us to reconsider and revisit due to a significant lack of participation from students and families. We hope that this will be different this year and hope that you consider taking the short time required to fill in this survey.

The purpose of this survey is to gather feedback/perspectives from students, parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators in relationship to their experiences with the secondary structures referenced above. This information will assist the collaborative decision-making processes that are an integral part of the Richmond School District, while remaining aligned with health and safety guidance from the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) and Ministry of Education, if needed.

Student Survey

We share this with you as we will be visiting student’s classes to ask them to complete this short survey in one of their classes. We share with you the classes that students will be asked to complete the survey (see below). This will occur starting tomorrow January 6 – January 31. We hope that the students take this opportunity in front of them to share their valued opinion in this process. 

Grade 8’s will complete the survey during Day 1 Block 1 classes.

Grade 9’s will complete the survey during Day 1 Block 2 classes.

Grade 10’s will complete the survey during Day 1 Block 3 classes.

Grade 11’s will complete the survey during Day 1 Block 4 classes.

Grade 12’s will complete the survey during Day 1 Block 4 classes.

Again, these surveys will be completed in their classes from January 6 – January 31. If the students have specific questions about the date and time they can speak directly with their teachers in their respected classes. 

Family Survey

The parent survey has been communicated out via email and can be accessed below as well. This survey will be supported with some translated documents that can be used by our families whose first language may not be English. Like the students we hope that families will have a conversation around this information and complete the survey. Again, this survey will be sent out next week and will be asked to be completed prior to January 31. The survey is short but is important to gather the information of all of our stake holders and we hope that you have a conversation with your teenagers about this.
