A Place for All - Diversity at MacNeill

One of the aspects of MacNeill that makes it such a vibrant place to work and learn is the diversity of our school community. This year, we are thrilled to welcome International students from China, Ecuador, Ghana, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Nigeria, Qatar, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Venezuela, and Vietnam to MacNeill. As a school that values diversity, inclusion, and intercultural experiences, our International students help to enrich our community. This same diversity exists within our domestic student population with numerous cultures and languages represented. Finally, we are fortunate to welcome many newcomer families to MacNeill who are further supported by our SWIS (Settlement Workers in Schools) staff.

The diversity within our school community has provided us with a unique perspective and understanding- an awareness that we need to continue to build intercultural capacity in both students and staff. As well, it further emphasizes the need to provide a place for all students to belong.

With the implementation of the new BC curriuclum, we also have the opportunity to enhance our understanding of the First Peoples Principles of Learning for students and staff. In addition to integration into all curricular areas, working alongside our Aboriginal Success teacher, we are also able to provide culturally enriching extra-curricular opportunities for students. We have identified this as an area of future growth at MacNeill.

Given the diversity of our school community, we strive to offer opportunities for students to connect, engage and grow as global citizens.
