HS: Citizenship / Leadership 10

Course Description

Required: Written Application

This course is designed for those students who wish to discover and develop their own leadership values, attitudes, and skills. The leadership program is based on the belief that young people can obtain valuable skills, experiences, and mindsets through a leadership development program that will have a direct positive effect on themselves, their school, and the community at large. Students will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge by planning, implementing, and assessing leadership activities within the school as well as in the larger community, and as they apply class work to a variety of projects. The approach is primarily holistic so that knowledge can be transferred in the general realm of student activities. This course is open to grades 10, 11, and 12.

Topics include:

  • Learning to be an Effective Leader
  • Self-Image and Motivation
  • Fundraising for humanitarian projects
  • Intrapersonal Management/Relationships
  • Communication Skills
  • Goal Setting/Team Building
  • Problem Solving/Decision Making

Leadership is not a position of popularity, but a position of responsibility. Students will learn to make decisions that will enhance the entire school community rather than just him/herself. See your counsellor for an application.
