Grade 8 & 9

Music  – Introduction

Students will have an opportunity to learn:

Music skills– Djembe drums, guitar, singing,

Music listening– an overview of classical music appreciation plus popular music

Music Theory– basics of reading music

Music Technology– Garage Band music software (depending on availability of the computer labs)

Music Composition– opportunities for students to apply basic musical knowledge, skills and creativity to composing their own works (* ideal for students to learn legal concepts i.e. copyrights)

Foods 

This exploratory course introduces students to foods, and nutrition. Students learn about the basic principles of food preparation, cookery, and the nutritional value of a wide variety of products and simple meals. Recipes will be prepared for breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, and dessert. 

Media Design

Media Design is a unique cross-curricular course that encompasses components of Technology and Art. The course focuses on students expressing their creativity through digital projects while obtaining hands-on experience with software & hardware currently being used by current industry professionals.

 

Grade 10 

Foods Studies Level 1

This course will introduce students to the foundations of a nutritionally balanced diet. You will learn about safety in the kitchen, as well as how to prevent foodborne illness. Throughout the course you will plan and prepare simple, balanced meals while also focussing on food from various cultures. This course is perfect for any student that has an interest in learning more about the foods we eat and wants to increase their skills in the kitchen.
